COURSE OBJECTIVES 
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

1.     Recognize and write Katakana letters.

2.     Write simple sentences using Hiragana and Katakana.

3.     Understand Simple Japanese Sentences the instructor uses.

4.     Use numbers in sentences.

5.     Exchange greeting with friends and teachers.

6.     Tell month, date, days of the week, and weather in Japanese.

7.     Carry on simple dialogues in Japanese with friends and teachers.

EVALUATION

A final exam is given at the end of each semester. Upon completion of the academic year course, the students will be given a CERTIFICATE OF PROMOTION (SHUURYOU SHOUSHO). After the final exam, the teacher will write a formal evaluation (REPORT CARD) of individualÕs performance in his or her class and of their overall proficiency: listening, speaking, reading, spelling, communication, penmanship, skills will be evaluated by the letter grade {A 90-100, B 80-89, C 70-79, D Needs Attention, and F Failure}. Also homework, attendance, punctuality, attention, effort, motivation, manners, and responsibility, will be evaluated by the letter grade {E Excellent, S Satisfactory, U Unsatisfactory}. At the end of each academic year (in June), the students will receive a REPORT CARD. Soko Gakuen will keep the studentsÕ records and will release them only upon his/her request. The REPORT CARD, together with the result on the final exam given at the end of each semester, will enable us to determine each studentÕs individual progress and to make recommendations as objectively as possible for their future studies. Upon completion of the academic year course, the students will be given a CERTIFICATE OF PROMOTION (SHUURYOOSHOOSHO).

 

AWARDS & HONORS
A KAIKINSHOU (PERFECT ATTENDANCE AWARD) will be given to students with perfect attendance during the academic year, and a SEIKINSHOU (GOOD ATTENDANCE AWARD) to students who have had 1 or 2 absences during the academic year. A DORYOKUSHOU (EFFORT AWARD) may be given to a student whose effort throughout the academic year was laudable.

PROCEDURES 
1. The instructor will follow the CALENDAR /Weekly Schedule below. 
2. The students will engage in physical activities in the gym between 10:00am – 10:15am to help lessen the stress and lower the anxiety.

NOTES TO PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
Students will receive assignments every week. If your child misses a class or misplaces his/her homework, please download and print out the homework from the course website.
